Evil Geniuses Announces VCT 2023 Roster

Months after the other North American teams in the Americas League announced their rosters, Evil Geniuses finally came forth and unveiled their entire roster for 2023. While both 100 Thieves and NRG are yet to announce their sixth members, EG has announced their complete seven-man roster and head coach.

Barring at least two more players, one from 100T and one from NRG, all North American player slots have been claimed. It is unlikely these remaining players will compete, meaning all 25 starting player spots have been taken.

Sticking to Their Guns

Like 100 Thieves, Evil Geniuses have opted to build their 2023 roster around the players they fielded in 2022. EG officially announced that all five of their 2022 players will be returning to the roster in 2023. 100T opted for a similar strategy; however, their four-man core found considerable success domestically and internationally. Evil Geniuses, on the other hand, have never attended an international event, nor qualified for one.

Their five players from 2022 have only competed together in three tournaments since EG signed both C0M and Apotheon in April. Of those three tournaments, only one of them was against other “tier one” (top teams) North American teams: VCT 2022: North America Stage 2 Challengers. In that tournament, EG placed 5th-6th after being eliminated by NRG. Notably, almost every player from the teams placed above them, with the exception of the FaZe Clan roster, has signed to play with a North American team in the Americas League this year.

If this is the case, it is unlikely that EG will be very competitive this year; however, they have signed some additional firepower to strengthen their roster.

Seven Man Army

Alongside their original five players, EG has opted to sign an additional two players to round out their roster. Following NRG’s release of Ethan “Ethan” Arnold, EG signed both Ethan and former XSET player Brenden “BcJ” Jensen to complete their seven man roster.

While most fans are aware that teams must field at least six players in 2023, there is an additional clause in the rulebook: teams can field up to a maximum of ten players. Although neither 100T or NRG have announced their sixth players, EG is likely to be the only team to have seven players. NRG’s release of their entire roster makes it unlikely that they will sign a seventh. 100 Thieves also released their fifth player from 2022 and signed former XSET player Cryo. It is unlikely they will sign two additional players to match EG’s seven.

The complete EG lineup with the additions of Ethan and BcJ are as follows:
Kelden “Boostio” Pupello
Jeffrey “Reformed” Lu
Alexander “jawgemo” Mor
Corbin “C0M” Lee
Vincent “Apotheon” Le
Ethan “Ethan” Arnold
Brenden “BcJ” Jensen
Head Coach: Christine “potter” Chi

It is unclear at this time which players will be a part of the starting roster; however, it is likely that Ethan and BcJ will start given EG’s selection of both players rather than a singular sixth player.
